Officers from the New Canaan Police Department received a report shortly before 4 a.m. when a driver - later identified as New Canaan resident Ryan Rothfuss -repeatedly crashed his vehicle into a Hoyt Street home.

Police said that after striking the residence multiple times, Rothfuss attempted to flee before he was stopped in his vehicle on Main Street near the intersection of Morse Court.

The investigation into the incident led officers to believe that Rothfuss was impaired, and he was taken into custody without further incident after he failed multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and refused to submit to a breathalyzer, said police.

Rothfuss was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

He was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Sept. 22 to respond to the charges.
